Programs for Children

Overview of Programs

Lighthouse Learning Center Quality Early Childhood Programs instill a respect for others and a lifelong love of learning. Lighthouse Learning Center uses a comprehensive approach to the education of our children that enables us to serve more than 500 children in 10 program locations. Helping children develop a greater sense of self, a respect for others and a lifelong love of learning are the guiding principles of our work with children. Improving parental engagement in their children's education is also a priority.

Our inclusive programs focus on meeting the social, emotional, physical and cognitive needs of the child as a whole. Lighthouse curriculum enriches children's development while being sensitive to individual abilities and learning styles. We recognize that each child's family, culture and community play a vital role in their whole development. Children learn through active exploration in their environment and through meaningful interactions with peers and adults.

Lighthouse Learning Center's Early Childhood Program offers young children a warm and nurturing first "classroom" experience. Classes are designed to engage cognitive, social and physical skills. Children learn to work independently and as part of a group. Through art, music, movement, indoor and outdoor play, children develop fine and gross motor and communication skills. During classes, parents, caregivers and children make new friends. Caring teachers strive to foster a love of learning.

Classes are for children 6 weeks to 12 years of age. Children are grouped in age groups that span the school year to ensure that activities build confidence and are developmentally appropriate.

Lighthouse Learning Center Philosophy

We recognize that a child doesn't come to us alone, rather, as a member of a family. We encourage dialogue with you about your child and our curriculum, care giving practice, guidance, and cultural events. We welcome your participation in the center and invite you to become involved in whatever ways you would like or are able.

Guest Educators

We bring in guests for our younger children. Visitors such as petting zoos, local police and fire departments, musicians, and puppeteers are happy to come to the center. Our teachers are creative when planning activities for all age groups.

Parents Can Join the Fun

One of the integral parts of our programs is the opportunity parents have to participate in their child's school experience. From chaperoning field trips to enjoying family events, we value and encourage our parent-teacher partnerships. Help your child see the world as an invitation to learn and grow.

Lighthouse Learning Center Approach to Health, Fitness and Wellness

Lighthouse fitness program is designed to foster positive attitudes towards healthy living through modeling, experience, and activity. Teachers promote an understanding of how health and fitness impact our sense of well-being and fitness. Lighthouse Learning Center involves creating environments, providing activities, establishing family partnerships, and modeling behavior so children may incorporate healthful habits into their daily routines. Lighthouse Learning Center supports and facilitates ways that adults and children can incorporate healthy choices into their daily lives.

Our World-Appreciating Diversity and Care for the Environment

Lighthouse Learning Center's commitment to instill in each child a respect for all living things and the environment we inhabit. Lighthouse Learning Center recognizes and values the rich cultural heritage that people bring to the center. We understand that individuals belong to communities and develop within a culture.

Lighthouse Learning Center diversity program includes materials depicting people from many different places doing many different things, and people with all sorts of abilities. Books, music, games, learning centers, enrichment programs, and a wide range of activities help children learn respect for our world, its diverse people, and the environment in which we live. Children experience the sights, sounds, and textures of other cultures and are encouraged to explore experiences that might not be part of their everyday lives.

Respect for the natural world is also an important element of the Lighthouse Learning Center approach. Children are taught to respect all living things and the environment we inhabit. They learn about conservation of resources through the practices of the center and through special activities and projects.
